| Aim
The aim of the Young Persons' Lecture Competition is to provide an atmosphere of friendly competition for young scientists and engineers in the disciplines of Materials, Minerals, Mining, Packaging, Clay Technology and Wood Science so that their presentation skills will improve whilst addressing a generalist but informed audience.
Rules & Eligibility
The competition is open to students and graduates aged 28 or under on 1 June 2016, in academia or industry.
The presentations should be on a topic of particular interest to the entrants in the fields of Materials, Minerals, Mining, Packaging, Clay and Wood Science, Engineering and Technology
The presentation should include research results and objectives
The presentation should be no longer than 15 minutes
The presentations are to be given in English
All presentations should be in PowerPoint format (PowerPoint 2010 is the software that will be used)
Each participant will be required to answer questions from the judges
The Regional Heats have no limit on the number of entrants
The National Final will consist of no more than 4 lectures, but could be less
The National winner will represent South Africa at the Young Persons' World Lecture Competition, to be held in Araxa, Brazil, 9 – 14 October 2016.
Participants should be in possession of a valid passport which does not expire before April 2017 and has a minimum of 6 facing blank pages
OR
Participants must be prepared to obtain a passport at their own expense should they win the South African competition.
Participants should also be able to attend the final in Brazil in October, should they win the South African competition.

Regional Heats
Regional heats will be held in May 2016
The winner from each region will go through to the National Final in June 2016 (venue to be advised).
The IOM3 will cover the costs of flights for out of town regional winners to attend the National Final.
National Competition
The National Competition will take place in June 2016 at a venue to be advised.
The winner will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the Young Persons' World Lecture Competition in Araxa, Brazil where he/she will represent South Africa.
The winner will also receive a year's free membership to the IOM3 Southern Africa and will be requested to present his/her presentation at various IOM3 events throughout South Africa.
The winner may also be invited to attend the IOM3 Southern Africa's prestigious annual events.
World Final
The World Final will take place in Araxa, Brazil.

Judges
The appointed judges are from academia and/or industry with at least one judge from within the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining Southern Africa.
Questioning from the judges will take place immediately after each presentation.
The Judges' decision will be final.
Judging Criteria
The judging criteria for the Competition are listed below. Each entrant will be marked from a total of 100 points.
