The Pain in Our Hearts
As a minister, I often find myself dealing with the pain in people's hearts. Sometimes I realize that God brings people into my life for times and seasons, and I recognize what I have overcome myself becomes a compass for them to get through there own pain and trials. God is good that way.
There have been so many times in life where I have been at the end of a rope, not knowing which way to turn to get out, but God always brings someone to help me through my storm. There was a time many years ago that God brought a friend to me from Australia, who helped me to get deliverance in an area of my life that had caused me great pain for a long time. I remember the next day, such freedom flowed into my heart. There was an aggression that left me which has never come back.
We all need such freedom and deliverance in our hearts. The Bible says in John 8:36, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed." It is for freedom that Christ came and died on the Cross for your sins. He has overcome this world (John 16:33).
Speak to Every Storm!
When our hearts are weighed down it can be a painful thing. We all have times of crisis. We can let these situations consume us or we can seek God through the storm. He is the captain of every storm. When Jesus was in the boat, the disciples woke Him up and He rebuked the storm. In that moment, He told them that the same strength could be in their own lives, and if they believed, they could also speak to the storms and the storms would cease.
I want that strength in my heart. I want to have that lens in my heart when the storms do come. I want to have the strength and even the joy to believe that it will pass quickly. I want this strength because I don't want depression or fear. Fear paralyzes. But when we have Christ in our heart, our hope gets renewed. He is our strength and a very present help in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1).
We must speak to the storms. We must command them to cease. We can't really expect the storm to cease if we don't believe. The enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10), but Christ comes to give life abundantly. I often find that I don't have the strength to speak when I am in the storm, but when I ask Christ to strengthen me, something births inside of me—like a lion I begin to roar.
Some storms will sure try to destroy your life, but those same storms have the potential to promote you to higher ground. There is a popular saying, "What doesn't break you, will make you." The things that don't destroy you will make you stronger, especially when you allow Christ into the middle of your heart.
I love the humility that comes after brokenness. I have seen many people face horrific storms who have come out the other side more humble, more beautiful, and more willing to minister to the brokenness in others lives. When storms produce this in our lives, they become God's vehicle for destiny. I have faced many storms in my own life, as you all have too. We are born into a common world where we all face similar things.
We are More than Conquerors
Recently I was in Nairobi, Kenya. I was among a group of Christians who were planting a church next to a Mosque. The Muslims there were not peaceful. In fact, they tried to destroy my friend's ministry. A mob of 70 of them gathered around their tent and started to yell and scream. They painted terrible graffiti on the outside of the tent. They also told the leaders that they would kill them. On another occasion, seven naked witch doctors surrounded their tent while they were in service and started to do awful chants. Then the mob came one night to burn their church to the ground but for some reason, which we believe is supernatural, they left with their gas cans and fire.
When I was there I didn't see my friends as weak Christians, I saw them as strong. I wanted to stand with them and share their strength, so I went to the tent and prayed where this attack took place just the week before. While there I could feel the oppression of the enemy, but I could also feel the excitement of Heaven.
These people who seem weak were producing something eternal in the spirit that the devil could not conquer. Satan tried to send his forces against them, but their faith was strengthened in the fight. These people were like David in the face of Goliath. No matter what is spawned against them they will overcome.
As I write this now, I feel this great strength inside of me. I declare that you are more than a conqueror and that you have overcome this world. You are seated in heavenly places with Christ Jesus and you will rule and reign with Him. The enemy may come at you one way, but he will flee in seven. You shall build houses and live in them. The enemy will not destroy the work that you do for Jesus. Heaven is keeping account. You will accomplish great things.
Let's pray: Father, I ask You to be with each one and strengthen them. Come to them in a dream or by a vision. Have a friend come to them today unexpectedly and speak hope into their broken hearts. You have overcome this world my Lord, and so shall we. Thank You for Your hope and Your power moving through our lives. Yours is the glory and the power forever. Amen.
