October 16, 2017 "We Are God's Property Under Construction: Repair the Broken Things!" by Cynthia Murray, Charlottesville, Virginia From the Desk of Steve Shultz: As I read through Cynthia Murray's article, two words came to me: "introspect" and "awaken". Her word will really help you to "examine inside" any areas that need cleansed and dealt with, and then awaken areas that have laid dormant...we all have them! Cynthia shares this powerful word: I call weeds the things that grow up in a garden right alongside the flowers and if not pulled up by the root or killed, they can take over and ruin that beautiful garden. In our lives, weeds can be uncontrolled emotions like anger, negative thoughts like jealousy or envy, and even wrong thoughts about ourselves – low self-esteem, feelings of worthlessness and inferiority to others and an inability to see yourself the way that God sees you. It's time to clean the gardens of our hearts and minds. Let us take every negative thought (about ourselves and others) captive to the obedience of Christ now! Yes, sometimes the "weeds" that need to be pulled out are what we think about ourselves! It's a new season and you have a destiny in Christ... be encouraged in what Cynthia shares here and allow God to prepare you for the new! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.) Steve Shultz, Founder and Publisher The Elijah List & Breaking Christian News http://www.elijahlist.com ************************************* "We Are God's Property Under Construction: Repair the Broken Things!'" by Cynthia Murray, Charlottesville, Virginia Now that we have entered another new year on God's calendar (5778), the season of Rosh Hashanah and the Feast of Atonement, you may feel that there are a lot of changes going on inside of you. Have you felt spiritually sensitive and as though your emotions are "raw" right now? Are you quiet and reflective, listening for God's voice? This is not a coincidence and there is nothing wrong with you. In fact, your sensitivity is absolutely normal because God has us under reconstruction! Kill the Mold You may see a beautiful house that looks pretty and well-built, but when you go in the darkness of the basement, you find mold. Yikes! That is dangerous and cannot be allowed to fester and grow. The mold is like sin that we have to get rid of! I sense in this season that the Lord is getting our attention and prompting us to be introspective, examining our own hearts, so that we would willingly allow Him to make any changes or corrections that He needs to make in order to cleanse us and keep us in right standing with Him. It's a time to allow the Holy Spirit to shine a light on (and in) us to see if there is anything displeasing to God in us. Let Him reveal if we've set up any idols in our lives, making God second place. Psalm 19:12 says, "How can I know all the sins lurking in my heart? Cleanse me from these hidden faults!" You might say, "But sister Cynthia, am I not already saved by grace and cleansed from my sins because I've received Jesus as my Lord and Savior?" Yes, it's true, we are saved by His grace, and at the moment that we received Jesus, He forgave us of our sins. In addition, the Bible teaches that we must "work out our own salvation with fear and trembling" (Philippians 2:12). We are always a work in progress, jars of clay on the Potter's wheel, being perfected and made more and more into His likeness day by day. We face temptations and make mistakes that make us vulnerable to sin and, if that sin goes unchecked long enough, we can move further and further away from God. We're not to constantly be "sin conscious" but rather "God-conscious" and reviewing our walk, because being Christian is a very healthy spiritual endeavor. This is why we need to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. We must break old, bad habits. Clear the Cobwebs In that same house that we talked about earlier, you may find that it is structurally sound and sturdy, but it could stand to be cleansed of the cobwebs inside. The cobwebs are simply things that we need to keep an eye on in our lives to maintain a life of excellence before God. You see, sometimes, it's not necessarily a sin that we need to be free from, but it might simply be an area of improvement that we have neglected, such as increased study of the Word of God, praying more or even taking care of our physical temples. Laziness and apathy can sneak in and without even realizing it, you find yourself living under conditions that are less than God's best for us! Pull the Weeds I call weeds the things that grow up in a garden right alongside the flowers and if not pulled up by the root or killed, they can take over and ruin that beautiful garden. Meditate on Scriptures about how much you are loved and who God says you are to Him. You are the apple of His eye! Awaken and Repair the Broken Things In this metaphorical house you might find some broken cabinet doors, torn screens or leaking shower heads. These are the small things that, while they do not take away much from the intrinsic value of the home, will certainly cause it to not function in its optimal capacity. We also need to look for things that once were so vibrant and useful in our spiritual lives, but have fallen into disrepair. Maybe you are gifted as a musician, but you are not using that gift or talent for the Lord anymore and your instrument sits unused in your garage or in your closet. Are you a teacher not teaching? An evangelist not looking for someone with whom to share your witness, or a powerful preacher who is now just sitting in the pews? I may not have mentioned your gift, but whatever it is that is lying dormant, it needs to be awakened once more for the glory of God! Let's be willing, like the psalmist who said, "Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me, and know my thoughts" (Psalm 139:23). Let the Lord do an inspection to see what, if any areas, we need to allow Him to fix and clean up. I guarantee you will be glad that you did. After all, He's a good, good Father and only wants the very best for you! Amen! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)
