"Will You Be a Simeon or an Anna?"
by Dan and Linda Wilson, Fort Worth, TX

From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

Steve ShultzThis is a heartfelt word from Dan and Linda Wilson of Fort Worth Texas. With this being a Christmas article, it also carries the promise of a new day, just as the birth of Jesus Christ did....He was our God-given Promise for a new day!

The Wilsons share how both Simeon and Anna waited for the "Promise" of the coming of Jesus and how it relates to us today:

During this season, there will be some, like Simeon and Anna, who will see the fulfillment of long awaited promises from the Lord... Ask the Holy Spirit to give extra wise discernment as you navigate the season. Watch and listen carefully to the gentle whispers from God. You will know when to move, to turn, to pick up "the baby" of your promise.

Now that's good and an excellent parable for us today!

Merry Christmas Eve...enjoy! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

"Will You Be a Simeon or an Anna?"
by Dan and Linda Wilson, Fort Worth, TX

Two thousand years ago there was great anticipation as the faithful few looked for the coming of the Messiah. The prophets of old gave hints of His coming, but there had been prophetic silence. Years and years—long, dry years of silence.

Holding Fast to the Promise: Watching and Waiting

But, some held fast to the promise. These faithful ones tenaciously believed the Promise. They were watching:

• Watching for the long-awaited Messiah—a mighty King-Warrior, powerfully arriving to relieve His chosen people from the harsh oppressions they faced.

• Watching for the Promised One who would set captives free as He went about healing all the sick.

• Watching for their description, their understanding, of how this Savior should act and dress.

• Watching for great and loud proclamations of His arrival with much pomp and circumstance. They watched. They waited.

Those Who Wait Faithfully Will Be Satisfied

Two who waited were deeply satisfied. In Luke 2, we read the remarkable accounts of these two precious souls who saw the Messiah.

Forty days after the birth of a male child, there was a ceremony of purification for the mother (see Lev. 12:2-8). According to the Law of Moses, a sacrifice was then required of a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons. Joseph and Mary obediently and joyfully set off for the temple with this precious Son in their arms, ready to fulfill the law.

How noisy and busy the temple was. Money changers and cages filled with doves and pigeons covered the temple grounds. Many people were scurrying about, rushing to and fro. There were loud greetings and intense negotiations. It was a cacophony of sound and an overpowering mélange of smells.

In the Midst of This Busy Scene We Find Simeon and Anna

Luke tells that Simeon was just and devout, and it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not know death before seeing the Christ. Wow! Pre-Pentecost Simeon had a powerful encounter with the Holy Spirit who gave this astounding promise. Did the Spirit manifest in a dream? Did Simeon hear the audible voice of God? Perhaps the Spirit translated him to the temple at the exact time to see this baby Jesus?

Then there's Anna, precious Anna. Luke reveals that she was an elderly prophetess who had been widowed for several decades. This godly woman chose to live out her years without ever leaving the temple—worshipping, praying, fasting, serving night and day.

Two everyday, behind-the-scenes, faithful individuals were moved, by the Spirit, to be exactly at the right place in the temple at the right time. Both had spot-on discernment that this particular baby was the Promised One.

There were many people with their own agendas moving about the temple that day, yet only two encountered the Messiah. These two loved God, served Him, and believed they would see the fulfillment of their hearts' desires. They saw Jesus, touched Him, and proclaimed His deity to the world. The desires of their hearts were realized!

Seeing Your Long-Awaited Promises Fulfilled

During this season, there will be some, like Simeon and Anna, who will see the fulfillment of long awaited promises from the Lord.

Ask the Holy Spirit to give extra wise discernment as you navigate the season. Watch and listen carefully to the gentle whispers from God. You will know when to move, to turn, to pick up "the baby" of your promise.

It is a holy season. Embrace this time with awe and wonder. The fulfillment of your promise might look different than your expectations, but it will be absolutely, perfectly marvelous.

Follow the examples of Anna and Simeon—pray, fast, worship and trust—see the desire of your heart manifest in this glorious, holy season celebrating the birth of our Lord and King. (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)
