God is Pouring Out Provision!" Dr. Candice Smithyman, Orange Park, FL Relationship is More Important Than Resources I would like to share what the Lord spoke to me recently about His people and the year of 2018. God was speaking to me that relationship is more important than resources in 2018. God wants to take us to a new place of intimacy with Him through relationship and not resources. Those that catch this revelation will set themselves up for greater peace and a stronger foundation in 2018. Our human nature causes us to engage with God from a foundation of seeking Him constantly for what we need. Well, the Israelites were the same way in the desert. In Deuteronomy 8:1-5 (NIV) we read: "Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land the Lord promised on oath to your ancestors. Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you." A Provision of Discipline Now manna from Heaven was actually a "provision of discipline". You see, God spoke to them and told them He was causing them to hunger and in their hunger they cried out in their flesh for their needs to be met. This was all God's plan. as He was exposing their sin nature from the Fall of man in the Garden. In Genesis 3:23-24 (NIV), the word reads: "So the Lord God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life." This was the curse of toiling the land once they were expelled from the Garden, but there was instruction to the way back. It was through the flaming sword which I believe signified our belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and forgiveness of our sins. A full redemption from the curse. Then we could re-enter the Garden and a complete relationship with God. Those who did this were now children of the King and of the inheritance, receiving all of the benefits of being such a member of the royal family. Yet the Israelites didn't quite get it. In order for God to work out the curse from their flesh and the bondage of Egypt, He caused them to hunger and then fed them with manna. Yes, this was a new way, as even their ancestors did not know this way. As they cried out in hunger they were saying, "God, what is our resource? Where is our resource coming from? When will it be here? How will it get here? What will you help us with, and who are you anyway and are you faithful to do this? Why is this happening anyway? It was better in Egypt." God's Faithful Provision How did God answer them? He answered them with what they cried out for. He answered them with manna. According to the Hebrew language, manna means, "What is it?" In other words, it was the who, what, when, where, why, and how of Heaven. This manna answered every need. Better yet—they were not to WORK for it, they were to WAIT for it. They could not toil for it—like they always had to throughout their life for sustenance. No, this food they had to wait for and if they took too much it, would spoil. What a new training, a discipline, to get the curse of the fall of man out of their flesh. He stirred up what He intended to crucify in them. Many don't want to WAIT for God to show up, we just want to WORK to get what we need. Now, Heaven knows just what to bring in a moment, but God didn't want to stop there. He wanted their hearts, so He tells them He did this so that they would learn, "Man does not live by bread alone but on every Word that comes from the mouth of the Lord." This means God was looking beyond satisfying their needs for resources, as He was concerned with relationship. In the toiling, they got so focused on survival and the next need being met by their hard work. Resources are Temporary but Relationship is Permanent He took them through a discipline process by sharing with them that resources are temporary, but relationship is permanent. Relationships have more assurance of resources coming. He wanted them to stop toiling in their hearts for what they could GET and begin realizing they had what they were asking for simply because they were His kids. They could count on Him for relationship, and that relationship positioned them for not just sustenance for their flesh, but an eternal relationship which would provide sustenance for them forever. He was taking them beyond their needs and their heart cries to a relationship of security which meant no fear. It was only an assurance of receiving what they needed because as with us, He is a good Father and will provide. He was trying to establish trust and did it through causing them to hunger. Some have been toiling so hard, even this past year, that they have forgotten they have provision in relationship with Him and no fear needs to be there. He wants to discipline us to believe in Him and because of who He is, He will provide. There are times and situations that He wants us to wait on Him and it will come in 2018! So let's stop toiling in 2018 and recommit to "relationship with Him". Let's have the faith to believe God beyond having our resources met, and move into a deep and abiding relationship with Him in 2018. Let's repent of toiling to get needs met as the curse went on the Cross of Christ (Galatians 3:13) and reset our flesh by renewing our mind. As we do this, He will meet our needs in relationship with Him and through every revelatory word coming from His mouth. This means completeness is coming! When He speaks, we will receive because we are His victorious children and we have a Father who loves us! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)
