From the desk of Steve Shultz:
As many of you are called to venture out into the new, this latest article by Joey LeTourneau will really help you!
Yes, it takes breaking out of our familiar patterns, our boxes, and moving forward into the new as Joey shares here:
When we are looking to see God bring about a new and promised breakthrough in our life, oftentimes, He is waiting for us to break out of the patterns or boxes we have subtly grown to put His voice in within our lives. Perhaps breakthrough breaks our cycles—even good ones like how we hear God—before it breaks our circumstances.
I pray this article by Joey greatly encourages you as you step out into the new! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

"Listening for Breakthrough: New Things Require New Ears"
Joey LeTourneau, Coarsegold, CA
"Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; SHALL YOU NOT KNOW IT?" (Isaiah 43:18-19 emphasis mine)
Many of us are waiting for God to bring a big change in our lives. We're often ready and have long been waiting for "something new." But usually, the hardest and most ironic part about something new, is it actually requires something new in us, first.
I believe we need an upgrade in how we hear God. The more we walk with the Lord and time we spend with Him, the more we get to know His voice. The more we know and depend on His voice, the more vital it becomes to big decisions in our lives, to directions we are hearing, and how we transition towards those promises God is leading us into.
However, I think we can grow too comfortable in the way we each hear from the Lord. It is easy to rely not just on His voice, but on how WE are accustomed to hearing Him. Hearing God or listening to His voice is one of the most vital, fresh, life-giving things I have ever known. And because of that, I've learned that it is also an area I have to stay pro-active in upgrading within my life and faith. It is an area in which I can't afford to grow comfortable.
Upgrading our System
Have you ever had to change your password for something on your computer? Why? Often it is because either our password isn't strong enough, we've used the same one for a long time, or, a thief has found what is familiar to us and used that familiarity to hack into our system and is trying to steal our identity. Thieves, or at least the best of them, work in counterfeits. The devil is no different. His lies are only occasionally blatant. Usually, they are counterfeited in a way that only those who know the authentic can sniff them out. Authenticity only comes about through an intimate knowledge or "knowing" if you will. We have to continue to stay so pro-active in our freshness, in our listening and hearing, that God can whisk us away from the place/way we last heard His secrets from, and let Him whisper or write to us in a new way to lead us into our new season.
For instance, in sports, you may start off the game with a set of plays that are working masterfully. The other team can't stop them. But by the second half the opponent has learned what you did well to put them on his/her heels, makes an adjustment, and seeks to use it against you to stifle your progress. A good offense makes their own adjustments pro-actively, keeping it fresh and not allowing the defense to put them in a pattern or cycle of... (continue reading)
