This is a potent word that every Believer needs to read...as it's truly a NOW word to us all.
Please read this thoroughly and send it to everyone you know! Above all: LOVE... (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)
We know these famous words from Bob Jones, "Did you learn to love?" We know it's the key to the Christian life, but do we recognize the subtle ways our love gets disabled? Do we recognize when our lives are contrary to the law of love?
We are about to embark on the most exciting time of our lives and the most brutal time of our lives. In fact, if we thought the last election was ugly, it was nothing compared to what this next one will be like. Can we rise to the occasion with the love necessary to change the atmosphere? I believe we can, but that we must start now with a plan and a promise.
The Plan
"Let's determine to spread the law of love like a never-ending stream with every thought and every action, toward everyone we meet, including those who wrong us." |
One of the ways we can prepare our hearts for the days ahead is to do a checklist of our arsenal for the coming war. In order to be a good soldier, you have to understand all the aspects of the armor. Most people think of self-protection when they think of armor, but if we take a closer look, we find out it's also protection against our own potential violation of the law of love.
The Armor of God
Eph. 6:10-17, "Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power [strong in Him, strong in His ways and in His love]. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes [game plans, plots]. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [each other, or the one who hurt you], but against the rulers, against the authorities, the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
"Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth [accuracy and facts about everything, including offenses] buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness [law-abiding, blamelessness] in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the Gospel [Good News] of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one [his temptation to not follow the guidelines of the Word]. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God [find out what it says to do about the disagreements we have with each other]." (emphasis mine)
The Promise
We all know very well that our most important weapon is love, but do we hold ourselves closely to that guideline or are there times we ignore it because we're angry, and feel justified in laying love aside for a moment?
2 Cor. 10:4, "We use God's mighty weapons [the law of love], not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments." (emphasis mine)
2 Cor. 10:5, "Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ..."
The Accuser of the Brethren
The accuser of the Brethren is one of our biggest and most hidden challenges. We are so focused on the obvious evils in society, that often we allow the accuser to slip in so easily and sway our thoughts about each other. We get caught up in the... (continue reading)
