Every so often, God brings a writing as a reminder to me...and you. Today is one of those days. I want to share a writing with you that is not only timeless, but one we need to be reminded of often – at least I do. It started with an email from one of my ministry's precious partners. Here's what she told me:
She and her husband were digging up some sweet potatoes and they had gotten a great amount. They re-planted the ones that looked like they could benefit from being re-planted, then brought the rest of the potatoes in to wash. Her husband was washing them and found two that looked like they were made for planting, not for eating. She said they were covered in eyes and they each had a tip that was all green, ready to turn into a leafy top. Then, a thought just jumped at her: "Some harvest is not for eating, it's seed for planting." God provides seed to the sower and bread to the eater! From this, she expressed a confession: "I'm a sower and an eater! We'll keep it sowing, and He'll keep it growing and reaping!"
Some Harvest Is Not for Eating
This is a profound truth to me. Some harvest is not for eating, it's seed for planting. I was blessed by what she told me, and I began to think about how God gives seed to the sower.
2 Corinthians 9:10 says, "Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness."
God gives seed to those who will sow it; that's His principle. However, as I was reading about seed to the sower I came across another Scripture. It is found in Isaiah 55:10: "For as the rain comes down, and the snow from Heaven, and do not return there, but water the earth, and make it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the eater..."
This caused me to see things from a whole different perspective. God causes it to rain on the seed, and that seed grows and feeds the eaters. However, it doesn't stop there. That same seed continues to give more seed to the sower.
Seed to the Sower
After reading this Scripture I couldn't help but remember what God has spoken to me over and over again about the rain. In Zechariah 14:17, the Word of God says that on those who do NOT worship, on them there will be no rain. If there is no rain, there will be no harvest and no seed to the sower. Worship produces rain and rain produces harvest and more seed.
If you are a sower, you will also be a reaper. It is a promise from the Bible. However, if you don't sow, you won't reap. That too is a promise. God has promised that He will give seed to the sower. If you need seed to sow, it is available to you through His Word.
Key: Ask God for seed, then worship, praise and thank Him for that seed! He longs to give you seed to sow. He wants His Kingdom established on this earth in prosperity. He wants YOU to prosper. He wants His Church to prosper. It is our promise. We must realize that it begins with our seed. It begins with our faithfulness to God in our giving. Some harvest is for eating and some is seed for planting. This is such awesome insight. It's so good and so true!
Do You Desire Harvest in Every Season of Your Life? We must recognize this truth: some harvest is for eating and some is for planting. Let us be determined to plant what needs to be planted. If we don't, there will be no harvest in the next season.
Do you want a continual harvest? Of course! We all do! We must, then, plant in every season. We cannot plant in one season and skip three seasons. Well, we can, but we can't expect a harvest when we are not sowing seed or planting.
I see this even in my personal vegetable garden. I am harvesting vegetables now and I'm also setting aside seed from the harvested vegetables to plant in the next season. I want harvest in every season of my life.
Some harvest is not for eating, it is seed for planting. Today, purpose in your heart to continue to harvest and to continue to plant. As you do, may your harvest be without end!
