In Times of War and Peace, Never Let Your Guard Down
The Holy Spirit is showing me something powerful this week. The book of Ecclesiastes, 3:1, one says: "To every thing there is a season, a time for every purpose under Heaven..." The Scripture goes on to say that there is a time for war and a time for peace. As Covenant children of God we should not always be in warfare mode, but as warriors we should never let our guard down.
In Nehemiah 4, the laborers who built the wall did the construction with one hand and held a weapon in their other hand. Every one of them had his sword girded at his side at all times as he built. The book of Ephesians says that we have the full armor of God and the sword of the Spirit (the Word of God) is a part of our armor.
Nehemiah 4:17-18, "Those who built on the wall, and those who carried burdens, loaded themselves so that with one hand they worked at construction, and with the other held a weapon. Every one of the builders had his sword girded at his side as he built. And the one who sounded the trumpet was beside me."
The Lord is looking for men and women who are tenacious in faith and ready to change the world. He is looking for those who are strong and very courageous. They are not mere men and women but they carry the Spirit of God on the inside. Jesus is searching for warriors and giving them a blueprint and a battle plan. They understand that they are not fighting against flesh and blood, and they recognize that they are in a spiritual battle. They discern the spiritual atmosphere around them at all times.
Ephesians 6:12, "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places."
Mighty Men of Valor
Jesus is increasing the anointing on our lives because tougher times requires a greater anointing. If you want to be used by God to heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the leaper, set the captives free, cast out demons and be used in the gifts of the Holy Spirit, then you have to learn how to fight the lions, the bears and the giants. Big battles require strong warriors. When you know your authority, you will defeat them every time.
The book of 2 Samuel 23:8-39 speaks of David and his mighty men. The phrase "mighty men" is written as "hag-gibborim" in Hebrew which comes from the root word, "gibbor." "Gibbor" means champion, mighty, warrior, strong, and valiant. What you may not know is that David not only killed a lion, a bear and a giant, but he raised up and trained warriors to do the same.
In 1 Chronicles it says that their faces were the faces of lions, and they were as swift as gazelles in the mountains. 1 Chronicles 12:8, "Some Gadites defected to David at his stronghold in the wilderness. They were brave warriors, ready for battle and able to handle the shield and spear. Their faces were the faces of lions, and they were as swift as gazelles in the mountains."
One of his men, Eleazar son of Dodai, stood his ground and struck down the Philistines till his hand grew tired and stuck to the sword. Another went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. Abishai slew the Philistine giant, Ishbi-Benob, who threatened David's life. He withstood 300 men, and slew them with his own spear. Benaiah killed an Egyptian giant and a lion. Jonathan was also a lion slayer. Sibbecai slew the giant Saph in the battle of Gob. There were thirty seven men who were all victorious over all of their enemies.
The Lord is Training Your Hands for War and Victory
Many of you are going to defeat your enemy with the same weapon that he tried to use against you. The Lord is training your hands for war and your fingers for battle. He will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before your face; they shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. As the rapacious (ravenous) fowls are coming down on your sacrifices, you will drive them away in the same way that Abraham did. Never let your guard down, but know that the weapons of your warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.
2 Corinthians 10:4, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds..."
