"The Kindness and Severity of God"
Patricia King, Maricopa, AZ

From the Desk of Steve Shultz:

Steve Shultz     There are precious few writers for the Elijah List who I call "heroes of the faith." Maybe it's selfish on my part because much of the reason for the term "hero" is that she is most certainly a hero—TO ME.

When I was sick awhile ago, Patricia King and her team prayed constantly for 3-4 years for my speedy recovery. (Many of our readers don't know that I was mostly bedridden for 4 years with a disease that couldn't be diagnosed. The cause of my inability to eat stymied the doctors.)

I had hundreds of people who also did the same and prayed for my recovery. Finally, after I "contended with God" my appetite returned, and 5 sinus surgeries later, my health and appetite slowly returned as well. Yes, God!

Patricia has always pushed, exhorted, encouraged, lobbied and preached HOLINESS! She has seen God move powerfully and she LIVES IT!

We are in a season once again (if not always) to stress HOLY LIVING. Satan hates it because God responds to holy living!

Please read this potent and dare I say "life-changing" instruction for living that does one thing very, VERY well, and that is this—HOLINESS MOVES THE HAND OF GOD! Because as Scripture declares, "...without Holiness, no one will see God" (Hebrews 12:14).

So I say this with all fervency: SEEK GOD WITH HOLINESS AND WATCH HIM MOVE ON YOUR BEHALF! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List subscribe here.)

Enjoy!

"The Kindness and Severity of God"
Patricia King, Maricopa, AZ

Romans 11:22 (NASB), "Behold then the kindness and severity of God..."

God is kind and good. He is love! His presence is beautiful and His ways are excellent. We are to follow Him and obey His Word. We are to live uprightly and morally. It is a normal response to being touched and filled by His love. We are to be holy as He is holy.

Most leaders and fellow Believers I know live righteous lives before God and do not give themselves to the lusts of the flesh and ways of the world. They passionately love Him, reflect His nature and seek His face.

Some Enslaved by Sin

Unfortunately, however, there are some who have not watched over their hearts and have become enslaved by sin. As a result, they have hurt themselves and others. Our actions always affect others for good or for evil.

We sadly discover a growing trend in the Body of Christ that supports the acceptance of behaviors that the Bible addresses as sin (i.e. sexual sin, drunkenness, unclean language, same sex attractions, etc.). Leaders are often afraid to address sin and bring discipline for fear they might be looked on as "religious."

In the example of Eli and his sons, we find that Eli, the leader, did not address the sin issues in the lives of his sons who were priests in the house of the Lord. When judgment came, it wasn't only his sons who were affected but Eli; his sons and the entire nation paid the consequence. The severity of God was implemented in order to deal with the carelessness of their ways.

God is cleaning His house in this hour—He has shown much kindness hoping we would be led to repentance, but we will now see the severity too. If we respond to His kindness with repentance there will be no need for severity. We have serious choices to make.

Leaders need to be lovingly brave and courageous in this hour and watch over the "house"—boldly confronting sin when necessary if they have not done so previously.

God's Merciful Path

God always desires us to walk in the light as He is in the light, and if we sin, He has shown us a merciful path: we are to repent (turn away from our sins) and receive forgiveness and cleansing (1 John 1:9), but we are not to intentionally remain in sin after we have been forgiven.

God will continue to convict us of harmful behaviors and sinful ways because He loves us, and we must be careful to not harden our hearts when He kindly addresses issues in our lives—we need to lean into His love and be transformed.

The Severity of God

When we ignore His convictions and resist repentance, God will continue to reach out over and over, but a time will come when we will reap what we have sown and that which is hidden will be shouted from the rooftops. In some cases, grave consequences will be encountered for lack of repentance. If the kindness of God doesn't deliver us, His severity will. He loves us too much to leave us in harm's way. We see examples of the severity of God in the New Testament such as Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5) and Paul's discipline found in 1 Corinthians 5:1-5.

A Great Outpouring Is at Hand

The Spirit of the fear of the Lord, the strong convictions of the Spirit, and the severity of God will be made manifest in the coming days as God lovingly cleanses His house, and then we will see the greatest outpouring of the Spirit—the greatest harvest ever.

Let's embrace both the kindness and the severity of God. Let's align. Let's fill God's heart with pleasure. Let's love Him, ourselves and others well by walking in righteousness.

1 Peter 4:17 (NASB), "For it is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the Gospel of God?"

Hebrews 10:26-27 (NASB), "For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying expectation of judgment and THE FURY OF A FIRE WHICH WILL CONSUME THE ADVERSARIES."

Romans 11:22 (NASB), "Behold then the kindness and severity of God..."
