As we've just entered the Jewish new year of 5780 along with a new decade, we've entered what I believe is a "Generational Era."

This is a time period where we will begin to actualize Malachi 4:5-6 (also see my previous word from July), the turning of the hearts of the fathers to the children and the children to the fathers. The new will fulfill (and honor) the old, and the young will be empowered by those who have gone before them.

The walls of misunderstanding between generations will be torn down; fear of those ahead or behind will be overcome, and a "family structure" that empowers the "seed" will come into design to create a multiplication that ushers in a true Kingdom government into our midst.

I see the Hebrew mark of "tav" (the last letter in the Hebrew alphabet) over this mutual generation, a mark which in its ancient form looks like a cross or an "x." "Tav" means "marked" or "sealed." This is not just one generation that is chosen, but a time of generations coming together, a mark upon multiple generations that are sealed and anointed together to fulfill God's Word during this time in the world.

The Family Structure

In 2 Samuel 7:11 David's desire to build God a house is confronted with a new reality. Despite his pure motives to build God a house, God, through Nathan, essentially tells David, "No, I will make you a house." This has become a life verse for me, as God is teaching David a different way to build.

"House" has two meanings here: 1. A physical structure. 2. A family structure. David wanted to build God a physical structure, but God wanted to build David into a "family structure"—a heritage, a lineage—from his seed.

The Lord went on to tell David: "When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish His Kingdom. He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of His Kingdom forever" (2 Samuel 7:12-13). (Photo via Pixabay)

Notice that Solomon, David's son, would be the one to build God a house, and yet this was not to take away from David or disqualify him, but rather to fulfill him. God was making David into a superior form of a house.

God used the generation after David to set up a throne that would have David's name on it forever. David didn't establish that, his lineage did. Solomon got to actually build the physical structure, but it is the throne of David, the line of David which would birth Christ, that the whole family would be set upon. David was fulfilled through those who came after him.

"Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it; unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain...Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb is a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth. Happy is the man who has his quiver full of them; they shall not be ashamed, but shall speak with their enemies in the gate." (Psalm 127:1, 3-5)

I see God building this "family structure" like never before, and the generations together will help lead and prepare the way.

Like David, we are often...(continue reading)
