Edie Bayer, Houston, TX A while back, I took my, not-so-little-now, formerly stray kitten to have her spayed. Many people are aware that spaying a female cat will not only keep her from having kittens but will potentially lengthen her lifespan. It will keep her from leaving home, possibly getting hit by a car, getting into fights, acquiring diseases or other feline predicaments. Ultimately, in the long run, she will be a healthier, happier cat. Working for Our Good It is for her welfare that she was being spayed. However, not knowing any of this, of course, she howled and cried out during the drive over there, scared and confused. I kept telling her it was going to be okay because I knew where she was headed. I laid my hand on the pet carrier, close to her where she could see it, but that didn't work. I tried to comfort her with soothing words as best as I could, but she didn't listen to me. She just cried out, over and over. Although it hurt me to hear her crying like that, I knew what was about to happen was for her welfare. As she continued to howl and cry, I thought to myself... |
