New Gloria Ventilation Shaft: Success where geoscience meets engineering Presented by Dr. Nicolaas C. Steenkamp, Senior Associate – Geology Advisian (WorleyParsons)   During 2015, WorleyParsons acted as the EPCM for Black Rock Mining Operations in the construction of a new ventilation shaft at Gloria Mine. This Presentation describes the geological and geotechnical challenges faced in developing a shaft in the unconsolidated sediments of the Kalahari Formation and weathered tillite of the Dwyka Formation. It also outlines the measures that were put in place to mitigate the potential risks during shaft sinking.
