Vision of a Praying Mantis and How it Relates to Seers
I woke up out of a dream the other morning and had a vision of a praying mantis. When I saw this vision, I was struck by the unusual nature of seeing a praying mantis as a source of revelation in my dreams and visions. When I pondered on what the Holy Spirit was bringing to the forefront of my attention, I immediately felt prompted to pray. It was then that I was led to the Scripture verse in Job 12:7-8, which provided confirmation to what I believe the Holy Spirit is revealing at this time.
"But now ask the beasts, and let them teach you; and the birds of the heavens, and let them tell you. Or speak to the earth, and let it teach you; and let the fish of the sea declare to you." (Job 12:7-8)
As I did some research about the praying mantis, I was surprised to find that this particular insect is symbolic for a prophet, or a praying prophet. It's also a sign of stillness or reflection because of the posture it holds as one being positioned in prayer. In prophetic terms, I've learned that a praying mantis can also be seen as a seer or one who foretells the future.
The most interesting data I found on the praying mantis was its identifying mark as being a warrior insect. This unusual looking insect is known as a skilled hunter who uses strategic movements to capture its prey. While appearing to be a harmless creature with its front legs postured in a stance of prayer, the strategy of a praying mantis is to capture its prospect through a stealthy and victorious takeover.
When a praying mantis is keen on its surroundings and perceives its adversary through its oversized eyes (supernatural vision), nothing escapes its grasp or goes undetected in its surroundings. The strength of the praying mantis comes through its covert operation of being confident of who he is and the skills he's been given to occupy his territory. A stance of uninterrupted and focused prayer is his weapon of warfare to overcoming all opposition.
