ABSTRACT SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 7 March 2016

ABOUT THE CONFERENCE

Despite clear evidence of mining's remarkable repositioning and reshaping of stakeholder
relationships  in recent times, especially in relation to environmental and human rights, current events have again catapulted the industry and its challenges in Africa, to top of mind.

The African situation is also often characterised by poor productivity, adversarial labour relations and expensive yet inadequate and unstable electricity supply. Add to the mix uncertain mining industry legislation and not-so-friendly investment policies and the outlook could seem rather bleak.

In the wake of intense commodity price fluctuations, operations are becoming increasingly unviable. Job losses continue to rise. Labour, energy and other input costs outstrip inflation, resulting in a steady decline in productivity. c
